If I recall correctly, Super Air Jet (SAJ) was founded by Rusdi Kirana, the CEO of Lion Group. The airline was founded in 2021 during the pandemic. He made this airline as a backup strategy due to drop in passenger numbers in Lion Air caused Covid lockdown and they fear that Lion Air might go bankrupt, hence the reason SAJ denied that it was part of Lion Group. Basically, this dude owns 2 airlines, one is Lion Group and the other is PT Kabin Kita Top (known as Super Air Jet). However, it was received positively by the consumers due to its low ticket price, that's why they continue to operate until today, even though its current reputation is quite bad due to bad customer service.

My expectations of these airlines with airbusses are that - an air bus. As you said, conviniently way from A to B. As long as they are safe and economical I'll fly with them.

I'm flying with them 3 times in November (each flight about an hour) and didn't know what to expect. Now I do - I think. Indonesian aviation is such a minefield. Thanks for helping the rest of us navigate it.

I’d suggest you try better low cost alternatives in Indonesia such as Pelita Air and Trans Nusa. They are miles better from my experience

Your Lion Air group summary was hilarious 🤣. They have an atrocious reputation in Indonesia and I would think you were lucky with your Super Air jet flight punctuality wise. The whole Lion Air thing illustrates a popular but unmentioned trait in Indonesia - Why make things simple when they can be complicated?

I’m not sure how Lion Air Group's strategy works, but I’ve noticed that Lion Air and Batik Air in Indonesia have reduced their number of fleets and flights, while Super Air Jet is suddenly growing significantly. But at the same time, they’ve also brought the same culture to Super Air Jet: delays and aircraft issues. I’ve seen someone posted the AC not working in-flight a couple of times!

Thanks for the tip on the Book Cabin app. I'm booked SOC - DPS on Lion Air in December and would have had no idea. The no seat selection even for a fee thing with Lion Air group is bizarre - here is a virtual fistful of Rupiah I'm offering you for this service. No? OK! Apparently Indonesian frequent flyers call Lion Air 'Late Is Our Nature' in a Delta (Delay Everyone's Luggage Through Atlanta) fashion.

You’re not kidding when you said ultra short video. Super Air Jet is certainly an interesting experience by virtue of being almost nonexistent. I loved your description of how it “allegedly” is part of Lion Air Group. 😅

Another great video, thanks Kevin. I Scandinavia, "our" airline is SAS. They are constantly struggling to make a profit. Our low population makes a complext organisation like an airline almost impossible. But for some reason in south east asia they seam to have no problem to operate and maintain multiple airlines. Got any theories as to how that is?

I laughed out aloud at your comment to the effect that if you carry a mobile home on your back and drag a bright orange suitcase, they will let you bring it on as cabin baggage. Depends on the luck of the check in agent draw, as I am sure you the very seasoned traveler know.

Re:Hello, Indigo! Never flown on Indigo, but I know that they are a low-cost carrier. On any airline that buys or leases aircraft from a low-cost carrier, you get public bus seats.😊

As for some ULC carriers being 3 times worse than a popular US based low-cost carrier, I remember a social media post by someone saying flying said low cost carrier was like being on a village bus in his native country. 😄

Considering Lion Air very bad reputation, make sense that Super Air Jet doesn't want to be associated with Lion Air.
Lion Air flights have decreased a lot lately, i can see Super Air Jet as Lion Group exit plan for the future.
