Reviewing LONDON'S CHEAPEST CAFE!?

I'm in Central London today and it's been a while since I've been to a café so I headed down to the Little Portland Cafe, right next to Oxford Street to try some of their specials. I've been here before when reviewing a breakfast comparison to the Wolseley and thought I'd give it a go again!

Hi Gary, been a fan for a while now and appreciate your work so much I have taken the time to pen you a quick limerick. Hope you like it:

There once was a YouTuber named Gary,
Whose food reviews were quite legendary,
With a charming demeanor,
And a gilet much cleaner,
He was the friendliest culinary fairy.

His channel just hit fifty-four K,
"A great milestone!" his fans would say,
With a smile and a wink,
And a "Let's give it a go!" in sync,
He ventured to eateries, come what may.

His cameraman, shrouded in myth,
Never snacking on a single dish,
An enigma, staying out of frame,
In the food review game,
He's the whisper, the folklore, the wish.

Gary's off to Ireland, land of the green,
Where the spuds are plenty, and the meats are lean,
His viewers decided, with a joyful cheer,
To watch him review an Irish beer,
And the tastiest colcannon ever seen.

In his navy blue gilet, he'd embark,
Unless the weather was too warm – hark!
He'd jest about Kerridge's fish and chips,
"No thanks, I'll not empty my wallet for a few dips,
And a fish that's no bigger than a lark!"

With each comment left, he'd take the time,
To respond with care, as if each a rhyme,
His kindness shone through each video screen,
In the vast digital realm, he was the cuisine queen,
A YouTuber so friendly, it should be a crime.

So here's to Gary, with subscribers in tow,
A champion of food, a true gastronomic pro,
His humor and warmth make the internet glow,
As always, dear Gary, let's give it a go!

Hi Gary, For £18.50 in central London that was brill. Don't forget that 20% of that £18.50 was VAT, so they have managed to provide 2 good quality "honest" meals to you for £14.80 (ex VAT), in the center of London. I really don't know how they manage to do it with the cost of food, wages, power, business taxes, etc, etc these days. Thanks for another great review. All the best.

I'm a big believer in the specials in a Cafe, particularly lunchtime specials. A cafe I used near Charlton, 30 years ago did lamb chops Yorkshire pudding and mash for £2 on a Thursday from 1 pm. The place was mobbed!!!!
That chill looked very nice. A real home style classic!! I cook it at home just like that. Not fancy but good.
That salt beef and mash looked absolutely incredible. My kind of food. Peas are peas !! 😂
So glad you went back here. I would order both of those dishes. Great choices and another great review.

Thanks Gary for another four star review; I’m glad this gem of a cafe is still going. Working in and around soho I’d often frequent this fine establishment especially after a bit of a night out for a Proper bacon sarnie. As ever, keep’em coming!!

This is a little gem in Central London. Proper old time cafe food and I'm glad you visited again. At those prices it's quite hard to criticise. The food would have to be pretty awful. And it's far from that. Both dishes looked absolutely fine. Much as I like a chili con carne, I make and eat that myself quite often, but I don't always have the chance to eat salt beef, so I'd be very happy to try some of that. And if it's crowded, that speaks for itself. Factoring in the low cost and your description of the taste plus my own view of the food, it's a definite 9 from me!

2 places I'd recommend when you come to Ireland if you need recommendations are Independent Pizza in Drumcondra and Gravediggers pub in Phibsborough, get the Coddle in Gravediggers, traditional Dublin dish (and a Guinness of course)

Finally I see a food reviewer visiting somewhere I have actually been, it feels weird lol. I had breakfast here and I absolutely loved it, great food, really nice staff and service and fantastic pricing for London!

Lovely Jubbly, the food looked warming, nothing says London grub better than salt beef and chilli-con -carne, lol! Those platefuls for that price in the middle of London, astonishing! Local cafes down here charge over a tenner for half that quantity! Loved the mash, you could see the butter hadn't been spared, before you mentioned it! Very envious of places like that, just to far away! Another informative video Gary, keep 'em coming!
