Arturia MicroFreak Wavesample Update (Version 4.0)

Arturia dropped the 4.0 update on their MicroFreak synthesizer and it's a pretty beffy little update. Allowing custom importing of wavetables, new presets and other goodies into the machine.

Hey Todd! I just learned from your Bandcamp that you are sort of in the neighborhood - big howdy from Missoula, MT!

I've had the Microfreak for something over a year, and it's a surprising device. I put the 4.0 firmware on (really easy update) and used the original wavetable algorithm run through my Lexicon MX200 to spice up a wavetable-heavy ensemble of Iridium, Blofeld, and Modwave in a piece I did yesterday. IMO the Microfreak always needs some outboard effects. Haven't played with the custom wavetable thing yet, but definitely plan to check it out.

Good to see them continue to update the software on a machine from 2019. I think this is a great little synth especially in as a portable combo with the Novation Circuit Tracks.

This is leaping up my wishlist thanks to this update plus its ability to handle MIDI CCs for controlling from my Roland AE-30.

Haven't downloaded it yet (so am still at v3) but starting with update 2, a crucial bottleneck appeared: not enough memory to accept the massive amount of presets and settings available... and transfering them back to your laptop hdd in order to make room for new ones is a bit of a pain. Anyway, it's definitely an amazing machine and it's flat touch sensitive keyboard is incredibly reactive and expressive.

I don't own the microfreak .... yet. I got the essential 88, mk2lab, keystep pro, drumbrute impact, literally all of their vst software so you could say I'm nearly all in with Arturia. I don't have room for this but that hasn't stopped me before 😂 Although I did just order a Waldorf string synth and should be getting that within a few days so if anything, my wallet will make me wait for the microfreak a bit longer

Crazy, I was JUST thinking about pulling my MF out of storage! I had every reason to love it, but we just didn't mesh. But this update sounds awesome, and might be just what the doctor ordered... Thanks for the scoop! 🙏👍
