How to Find all Email Attachments or Specific Attachment Types in Gmail

If you need to find all of the emails in your Gmail account that have attachments or if you are looking for just specific types of attachments such as PDF files or Word documents for example, there are a couple of easy ways to go about finding them. You can search your inbox and categories for all email using the following search filter.
has:attachment

If you want to find a certain file type, you can use this search filter but replace extension with the extension of the file type you are searching for.
filename:extension

I'm opening an incoming gmail that is an email thread comprised of 23 messages. The most recent message in this thread has an attachment. It seems that in order to open the attachment on the most recent message, I have to scroll down through 23 messages to find the attachment at the bottom of the first message....which is a waste of time. Is there a way to have attachments, that are in a thread, be viewed to the actual email they were attached to?
