If Singaporeans had a chance to live overseas for six months to one year, they would realize how hard their curent lives in Singapore are. Most will decide to stay and not go back to Singapore.

Where the money comes from to pay worlds highest paid part time ministers salaries, its all at the expense of struggling, stressful, suffocating poor tax payers, whi can never make ends meet, income can never match cost of living .

You need to navigate around this most expensive country to find reasonably priced food and services. Food centers, hawker stalls and some sub urban street shops can give you more bucks for your money. Never go to cafes or Food courts in mega malls. The prices there are crazily high, a piece of cake can cost you $15, . Take public transport and privately owned cars (GRAB) or rent if you must drive a car. Many ways to beat inflation and high cost of living. Not that bad in S'pore. Switzerland is even much worst, believe me. There, no option for cheaper food like in S'pore.

These are problems of a rich country, and so Singapore has the resources to solve them. Better rich than poor. So, no worries.

We left Singapore in 2013 after living there for 17 plus years. Our hearts break for the friends that we left behind. They are going through hard times.

Yes it is indeed very expensive and many average Singaporeans are struggling to get by. Those who claimed that it “isn’t true”, are either lying through their teeth or have very few Singaporean friends of middle to lower socioeconomic class…

Minister iswaran is still getting 24000 SGD per month paid for by taxpayers even though he didn't do a single day of work due to corruption investigation. Do we ordinary Singaporeans get the same kind of benefit as him? Obviously social safety net exist for those in power, not for us.

If you live outside city, don’t drive a car, stay at reasonable size of HDB, take public transport, don’t smoke and don’t buy alcohol, then you are fine plus Govt good healthcare system. Calculated, simple peaceful retirement lifestyle, at USD10 per day you can get a decent eat out meals for the day, at HDB coffee shop.
You cannot get the best in the world, but best of balance life.
You can walk with 2 thousand USD in pocket, 2am at the back alley and no risk of robbing. No gun and Govt are serious on drug and crimes. Clean Govt and is against corruption.

Singapore- the most expensive city to live in but definitely not the happiest ! Cross the border into Malaysia and that is where real, quality life is. Rainforest mountains, streams, orchards fields, high rises, modern cities with cheap and quality living, multi-cultural, idyllic islands and sun-kissed white beaches. That is what a real country is about and not a tiny, super-rich red dot !

Singapore, the pressure-cooker where many workers have "no life" outisde of work! Work till you die, coz there's never enough $$$ for this expensive place!

Living cost in Singapore is too high and quality of life is lower than other countries where big house and car are so achievable. Furthermore, in these countries, you own the house unlike 99 years leasehold in Singapore where one don't own the house but like renting one. But majority of people don't realize that as they don't venture out of Singapore and continue with the rat race.

I'm in Singapore ATM. I was last here 5 years ago. It's very expensive and you can feel that people are more desperate and more concerned with their financial situation than 5 years ago. It's sad to see. It's a difficult place to make a go of it here.
