What a change. when we were there in 1961-1962, there were few people on the streets most days and no one was on the streets after sunset. The doors were locked and those of us with US Navy shore patrol duty traveled with 6 Carabinieri in trucks or marched in groups of about eight to twelve. There were places where they were still recovering from WW2. The people were great to me and I have some good memories and we tried to help during those times as much as we could. We rebuilt an orphanage in Monreale, Italy (If I remember the city correctly). We repaired, cleaned, painted, wired the electrical, and more. There were a lot of good people. -wonderful memories.

I was there 4 years ago. I can't wait for my second chance. The whole Sicily is a pearl.

« I can't describe in words the vaporous luminosity that floated around the coasts when we arrived in Palermo on a gorgeous afternoon. The purity of the contours, the softness of everything, the yielding exchange of colors, the harmonious unity of the sky with the sea and the sea with the earth... who saw them once, will possess them for life» (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

oh my god. walking into the Cathedral of Palermo was one of the most beautiful things. With the music playing it was like something out of movie.

Seeing old works of art really makes you think how far we have regressed.

Settling differences is a very, very positive reinforcement we can define. Not even wether they have cloud thoughts .In a faraway country either intensifies homesick but then again we affirm and get from here all the reminders folks have given.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I visited Sicily when I was a student 20 years ago and it was fascinating. Especially Palermo is a perfect example how different cultures enrich a city and makes it even more beautiful.

Your filming is exquisite. What a magnificently beautiful, atmospheric, and evocative city, even in its disrepair, or maybe even more so because of its disrepair. Your historical and cultural notes are fascinating and outstanding, as always. Thank you so much!

Palermo is Sicily's cultural, economic and tourism capital. It is a city rich in history, culture, art, music and food. ... The area attracts significant numbers of tourists each year and is widely known for its colourful fruit, vegetable and fish markets at the heart of Palermo, known as Vucciria, Ballarò and Capo.
