I don't think the average Greek citizen threw their money away. I suspect many of their financial systems weren't set up properly and unfortunately the government employees elected failed to communicate to the average Greek how risky it was to run their country in the way it was run. Now, though it will be very difficult for a long while, I hope Greece will get out of this situation and build a solid, well constructed, robust financial system and economy with minimal, hopefully no, corruption which will serve future Greek citizens for decades to come. That is what I hope for them
