Patrick Vieira Tribute

Vieira retired from football two days ago and here's a tribute that I want to share. An exceptional player at Arsenal. A captain who had many good qualities. One of the greatest midfielders I've ever seen.

spot on mate. on paper he was a defensive mid, but you'd never know by the way he played. legend he was.

That is a HUGE statement. One of the best ever for Arsenal, but Liam Brady was AWESOME as well. But I agree he is the best of my generation.

You can't compare Scholes & Vieira. Vieira or Keane would be a more valid debate!

Vieira 1994-2011 with 6 different clubs.
I'd to say that 2009-2011 wasn't a good time for Vieira in City. His time in Arsenal was top class every year, and he kept it in Juve and also in Inter so, I think he proved in many teams and in different eras. He kept his style and talent. 13 years of absolute world class.

That is a tough one! I can't tell the difference, though Vieira was on the whole more succesful, so I would vote him.

far better player than roy keane could ever dream to be. keane just broke peoples legs on fergies whim. no comparison atall, football wise, Vieira planets above.

When Vieira had his 'prime' I think he was better than Scholes ever was. Top box-to-box player for Arsenal. Seeing all his career I don't think he was as succesful as Scholes but.. I think they had the same class but different qualities. Zlatan said in 2011 that Vieira is the best he has played with through his career, and that tells alot.

Scholes > Vieira was a debate I was having with a friend. I'd just like to see how many of you agree with me that Scholes was better than Vieira

even gerrard is debateable being a complete midfielder against Vieira. pure all round, Vieira for me. 99% of long passes going out of play doesn't mean your the greatest. end of the day, hes the best all round midfielder the prem has ever seen in Vieira. funny the Liverpool fans station Vieira, what cus he punched ppl in bars and nicked hes that great... lucky hoofs 9/10 most of the time

I did and a lot of ppl he has had something to say about have said that what he had written in the book are not true. For example espn soccernet article about Zlatan "hitting Zebina hard".

Zebina: "Maybe he needed publicity for his book. He sold lots of them, and that's good for him.
"It's better to say 'I caught him with a good right and he fell to the ground' than 'my fingernail brushed his eye'."
Also the section about Guardiola is just plain silly...

Completely different players. For the sake of it, Vieira's close control was unbelievable but Scholes' passing was better and he was much more creative. Keane was comparable with Vieira and he was probably better defensively (PV almost always played with a more defensive midfielder like Petit or Gilberto) but no where near as gifted a footballer as Vieira, despite being a very well rounded player.
