I get why youd fish it with the trailer hook, but why wouldn't you just leave the main hook point on? Does cutting it off like a shank reduce hang ups? Does it change how it moves in the water? Does it minimize damage to the fish if your rekeasing them and reduce handling time? I guess im just wondering what are the advantages of shanks or breaking the hook point off like this rather than just fishing it woth both hooks?

Nice fly. Just curious as to why you invert the trailing hook. Would that not cause more damage to the fish in a catch and release situation, say a Steelhead.
