My first horse cost $500 bucks, she was bomb proof, great at team penning, excellent with kids. Her name was “Champagne”, but kids were little and called her “Shampoo”. Gave her away to my cousin who had kids. I moved up into team roping and bought more expense horses($3500 average). To this day, best horse ever, I miss “Shampoo”.

We bought a 4 yr old mare from the bucking pens at a rodeo for $500 because she was SO SWEET that she WOULDN'T buck in the 5 rodeos they took her to and she pressed herself against the pen when we came by like "take me home!". Sent her to a great trainer for $1, 500 and now she's priceless to us. Thanks for showing us the Cadillacs!

Me personally I would never spend more than 5 grand on a horse. If your in this long enough you know some dumb stuff happens with these critters. Break a leg, colic and the list goes on.

2 of my favorite equine influences in one video!! I'm so glad Dale, as a rodeo man, could still show appreciation for the show horse!! And shout out Katie Van Slyke for being on Rodeo Time!

My Dad, an old time real cowboy, told me more than 55 years ago something I've never forgotten about the VERY BEST WORKING HORSES! It's as simple as this: 'It's not a stud horse because the only thing on a stud horse's mind is a mare!
It's not a mare because the only thing on a mare's mind is a stud!
It's a gelding because the only thing on a gelding's mind is his work!!!'
I have found this to be one of the most reliable, steadfast truths about THE VERY BEST WORKING HORSES OF ALL TIME!!!!

Bro that second million dollar horse you showed? Spectacular. Stunning! Graceful. I dare say you should raise that figure to $1.5 mill with the quality portrayed by that absolute beauty.

My dad used to say ain’t no such thing as a free horse or a cheap horse. $1000 horse usually comes with $10000 problems and don’t ride half as good.

Dale I got up, gut full of whiskey, walked across my home to get my phone to tell you this video is the style that will carry your channel to the next level. More inside baseball stuff. I loved it.

My dad was the general manager of Childers Ranch (racing Quarter Horses) and in 2004 they had the AQHA World Champion, Be A Bono, who won over $1.3M…it was pretty cool having a million dollar horse in the stable. Cool episode 🤠

Thankfully all the horses that live at the stable I go to were rescued, including my gelding bugsy. Although they were not bought for anything I would call bugs priceless. He’s super calm, very gentle, the smartest horse I’ve ever met, and when riding if he senses you slipping he stops and help you adjust <3

In 1995 I went to the Premier Paint Horse Sale at Will Rodgers arena in Fort Worth. I wanted to get my 13 year old daughter a show horse for 4-H. I found a beautiful paint gelding by the Roan Ranger, APHA champion. I got him bought but I had to spend more than I have ever spent for a horse at auction, $3100. My daughter showed him til she got married, won a lot. We kept him awhile around the place just because he was so good and anyone could ride him. He was too go9d to keep in a pasture though, so we offered him to a therapeutic riding facility. They tested him and he passed so spent the rest of his life with easy work and meticulous care from facility personnel. He was the reserve champion mount at the Chisholm Trail meet for handicapped riders one year. After that we saw him on a commercial for the place on TV, being ridden by the reporter. He was also a star on the TV show "Horses that Heal". He was a great horse and a popular mount for wounded veterans and handicapped children and adults.

bought my first horse for 150 bucks. He was a two year old buckskin who jumped out of any fence, even a 6 ft metal pole pen, to go join other horses, if he was lonely. He was a pest for ranchers. I ended up in national and international competition in eventing. He could also do a 16.5 barrel run! I sold him at age 9 to a student and he won the Texas State Championship. He could do reining, and dressage. My next horse I bought for $350 bucks a 16.2 leopard app. Not very many could stay on him if you lost your concentration, well he would leap up in the air and kick out and it could be a long way down. Beautiful mover. He sold for 5 figures and I went to graduate school.

I got me a big gelding off the Navajo res for 540 bucks and he’s amazing. Fastest horse I ever rode and tough as nails.

I’m also training a colt I got from the same place for 200 bucks.
Don’t need no fancy ponies.

Technically I have a $1 horse. OTTB mare confiscated, “bought” for $1 (for bill of sale) and the woman felt she was too much horse for her so I paid $1, 500. It’s been months and she’s still not sound to ride, but she looks great now and she’s a sweetheart!!! Retirement will be sweet for her
