Arguably Honda’s best-selling vehicle and topping the sales charts for over two years, the Activa is a household name. But, the Japanese manufacturer has finally stepped foot in the electric game with the Activa E and the QC1. Marked at two different price points, they sit right in the middle of the market surrounded by established players like Ola, Chetak, Ather, and iQube. Can Honda deliver once again the same way they did two decades ago? Varun Painter goes to the IT city to decode things.

I feel like Honda's main aim launching this is to scare people away from electric and get another ICE Activa instead

For anyone considering Activa e, this might help

subscription costs

2000+gst = 2360/month for that gets 35kwh

For each swap takes 3kwh
So 35/3 = 11.666 ≈ 12 times battery swap

So for a month for 2360 you can swap 12 times

2360/12 = ₹196.66 per swap
(for the lower subscription which is limited to 50km)

This Activa e gets a realistic range of 80 (from first ride review videos)

So it costs ₹197 of 80km(WTF honda)

ICE activa gets 47km/l
So for 60km ICE activa costs only ₹179

Summary
Activa e 80km for ₹196
Activa iCE 80km for ₹179

All this after paying 37000 more for Activa e

Thank god I didn't attend the media ride event, I love scooters apart rom ADVs, but this one man is nothing exciting for me.
The subscription plan more or less looks roughly like 2 Rupees per km (Plz correct me if I am wrong)
Where as other scooters when charged at home costs about 20 paisa per km.

Looks like Honda just said amaa JOKING....

Honda should fire the whole team behind these scooters. A person in the 10th grade with no knowledge of sales, marketing and engineering would know these scooters would not sell.

What was Honda guys smoking when they thought this kind of product is going to sell in a country where people argue for 2 rupees with vegetable vendors?

I'd rather drive a hero splendor. More RANGE, More Comfort, Decent Performance, Best Ride quality and good Service. Wouldn't you agree?

No way I will have to pay more for this subscription than what I pay to refuel my ICE Activa. For my commutes I spend around Rs.1500 per month for refueling (Petrol rates in my city: 106 rs/l)
What's the point of this being EV then.

This would have been a good product, if it was one of the first few launches of the ev scooter era. Right now the market has matured way too much for this scooter. But anyways, lets wait and see how sales go.

In multistorey apartments you can't charge your vehicle unless you have dedicated charging point for yourself..so people who are living in rental apartments can find swapping the batteries easier than charging their vehicles. It only works for tier 1 cities where there are more battery swapping point. It won't sell in tier 2 cities or villages where their petrol version sells more

The EV manufacturers are maximizing profits by cutting back on bike features and then forcing customers to subscribe to additional packages. You buy a product, but then you have to keep paying for its usage—what a ridiculous situation. They primarily target young people who are more focused on lifestyle choices than on spending money.
