Kirstie Alley carried a lot of that show for me. Her character was paramount to the show, and her performance was probably the best of her career. I cried like a baby when Virgilia said goodbye to George.

This miniseries was a monumental work of art. Just incredible. When this first came out, it was reported millions and millions of households tuned in. It was THE show in the 80s that riveted the nation. It was THAT good. I would suggest BUYING the dvd because you absolutely will watch it over again.

I have this series on DVD but it's been so long since I've watched it I'd forgotten all the big name stars that were in it. When N & S first hit the airwaves it was the first time I saw Patrick Swayze and fell madly in love with him. 😊

I'm British and I first watched this when I was at school. The cast was literally like a who's who of acting and with the younger actors, it was just perfect. I loved it. This is where my Interest in American history started, I'm currently rewatching Ken Burns The Civil War.
