So many of my character have facial markings. in my story, bonding with a magical entity, enabling the use of magic the markings depend on the element associated with the entity, and represent the way you use magic. A seamster who uses magic to speed up his productivity has unobstrusive markings around the outline of his face. The element representative might be colour or pattern, like if there are two bonded with fire one might have red markings and one may have flames but they might be a different color, like blue or green)
