It's a combinations of tires, vtm4, type of snow(wet vs powder) and depth of snow. It the snow gets packed under the vehicle, the tires won't be tracking the best and you will loose forward momentum.

To lock you have to be in 1-2 gear.. also R works… but otherwise you run awd not 4x4
