Man I remember back when Section 8 came out and thinking "This concept would make for a great Halo game" and then Helldivers 2 comes out and proves me right, again. The moment I saw it my mind went to ODST's and I had to get it, absolutely love this game

Seeing Helldivers 2 almost perfect the futuristic alien co op shooter, it makes me want to see an ODST version of this game style, but the thing I REALLY want is a Republic Commando game in this style. What better example of disposable war machines are there than the Republic clones?

It's interesting how art imitates art imitates art. I feel like Helldivers takes inspiration from Halo and Starship Troopers, and Halo itself took a lot of inspiration from Starship Troopers (the concept of power armor, the concept of deploying directly onto the battlefield from space) so it's like the inspiration/homage is coming full circle.

What’s worse is that ex 343 devs have proposed a Helldivers 2 like game before Helldivers 2. They also proposed 10+ games for halo that expand the universe like playing as other Spartans, marines and ODST.

I love the automatons in helldivers, they feel more like a experience military than the bugs whole thing just being swarm with bigger units.

Heinlein invented the concept of power armor in Starship Troopers. Both Halo and Helldivers take heavy inspiration from it.

This drives me crazy. Combine this with what we heard from ex-343 devs about how a ODST-focused game that works the same way as helldivers 2 (though was rejected by executives in microsoft and 343), it would've been so fking amazing it'd be unreal. Imagine getting behind the lines of the Covenant war effort as ODST and sabotaging it, that'd have made the Spartan 3 Beta company's sacrifice in operation torpedo just that much more awesome....

Not sure if youre aware in HD1 there is a 3rd race called the illuminate. Theyre basically protoss from starcraft with shields psionics and teleportation. Its actually where the helldiver shield comes from. 😉 Apparently the lore for HD2 says they were defeated entirely, so they could actually EASILY be replaced by a covenant-like race for HD2. As a player of 1 and so far only a viewer of 2, id love to see it. 🤘
