I actually like that YouTube got "YT Shorts" bc I know there's a lot of people out there not allowed to have IG or TT

It’s actually genius from YouTube’s perspective to add shorts, because they realize that people like to watch short videos too, so by adding that feature more people watch YouTube because they have short and long videos. Super smart for them, even if it can inconvenience us a bit.

Omg yes I do art on Instagram and I was still under the impression that it was just images even with the "reels" section and it's frustrating to see that even my most low effort short animations/comics/whatever it is that gets posted as a reel there can get more likes and views just because it's a reel.

you’re absolutely right i’ve noticed that too! i’m pretty sure it’s because most people spend their time on here scrolling through their shorts, so the yt shorts get the most views as opposed to long form videos

honestly, i’m kind of grateful for shorts and reels because where i live tiktok is banned so having short form videos on different platforms are very good for people who don’t have access to certain apps

Yes! I feel like every social media app is trying to copy one another and it's getting annoying.
We like these apps because they are different than the rest and they serve their individual purposes not because they are like the rest.

To me Tik Tok is amazing when I want to find new content and new content creators, but it's extremely rare for the same creator you enjoy to appear more than once on the fy page.
I really like the YT shorts algorithm because while it still gives you new content, the creators you follow still pop up regularly

Its so frustrating as an artist. I have deviantart, I have FA amd tumblr but it just doesn't compare to the reach instagram had. Now I don't really have a good photo based app to find artists I like

IF YOURE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY HERE IT IS:

It’s a marketing feature. Apps like vine, tiktok, musicly and the other ones like that found the golden equation to keeping people’s attention for longer, by tapping into our lessening attention span with the much shorter videos. It’s all basic psychology and you can most definitely find articles on it somewhere (I’ll respond to this comment with links if I find any)
But basically, apps like Instagram and YouTube want you to spend more time on their apps, so if they become more like tiktok then they will also get the watch time that TikTok gets.

TL;DR: other apps are trying to become more like tiktok so that they can get the watchtime of tiktok. Psychology and money. It’s what makes the world go round.
