KTVI News Montage (1994)

Ahh... the short-lived “2 NewsTeam” package that only lasted a year before our friend Fox came along. KTVI used Chris Crane to compose this theme, and it sounds really, really good.

What makes no sense is this theme would’ve fit the feel of a Fox newscast later on, but no, they dump it for “Eyewitness News” which makes no sense either cause that theme is associated with ABC, which was disaffiliating from them at that point.

Also due to the abundant amount of KTVI footage being uncovered since 2014, I may update the KTVI news open compilation. Just a thought.

I will say this a.) nice upload vid of KTVI as ABC affiliate before going to FOX. b.) They had a nice set, nice look. Some stations at that time either had a nice look/nice set in the early 90s, and some stations were stuck in the 80s with their look and packaging. A part of me wishes this station would never have been apart of the switch.

Yeah, I dunno who was in charge of identity at KTVI at that point, but they clearly had no clue-- they could've easily retained this look as a Fox station, just edit out the ABC logo (and reshoot the helicopter/satellite truck footage in the background without ABC references on the vehicles) and replace it with a small rectangular Fox logo.

You're right, by the time KTVI switched from ABC to FOX in 1995, it should've been the other way around. For one thing, the "Eyewitness News" theme by Frank Gari should've fit KTVI perfectly as an ABC AFFILIATE in 1994. Second of all, that "2 NewsTeam" theme from Chris Crane should've been a perfect match for KTVI as a FOX AFFILIATE in late 1995.

Perhaps the tabloidy feel didn't work. New World's stations tended to be edgier before they went into the Fox agreement. After the affiliation changes, they needed to make sure they retained viewers with more conventional newscasts...

I loved this news theme so much that I used it as my channel’s intro music.

Well this intros had to be last as ABC affiliate before going to FOX on KTVI Channel 2 used Blue-ish with St. Louis photograph in background.

New World and Fox wanted a uniform look for all the stations they bought in 1994-95; most were other network affiliates and Fox was projecting a newer image, so all existing station imaging was dumped. Pretty much the same now. Currently, KTVI and KPLR/11 are owned by Tribune and share their news operations. Nexstar is currently trying to buy Tribune. Sinclair never owned KTVI; they own ABC affiliate KDNL/30, which hasn't had an in-house news department since 2005.

KTVI and WVTM-13 in Birmingham were both owned by Argyle Television (later merged with Hearst) during this time which acquired some of the Times-Mirror stations in 1993
