Thank you for giving me permission to paint my walls!! Everyone thinks I shouldn't paint them because my room is tiny, but it has large windows! I'm so going for it!

Agree on the darker color. The hale navy in the back of your videos makes that wall recede, thus making your space deeper and larger. Also the dark color becomes part of the room's "artwork".

One of the simplest ways to make furniture feel proportional in a small space is to avoid sofas and chairs with big bulky arms. You can still have ample seating, but you don't need that extra cushion taking up valuable inches. (regarding the 3:00 mark...ish)

I definitely agree with the dark walls in a small space...when you mentioned the rule about painting small spaces white, I was like oh that’s kinda boring, and when you said you disagree with that rule I’m like heck yes thank you 😂👌🏽

Strategically placed mirror is important! My husband and I hung a mirror up in our 400sqft studio and only later realized that someone standing at the front door can see into the bathroom/closet area 🤦🏻‍♀️ whoops!

Woohoo, finally! If you could consider covering awkward spaces such as a sloped roof bedroom in the future that would be great, especially in older heritage homes. Sending well wishes from a fellow local :)

I can’t handle white boxes anymore, those all white rooms with minimalistic decor... not even hospitals are all white anymore. Dark colors give so much comfort .

I wholly agree about dark colours. We put up this beautiful dark navy blue wallpaper with a copper pattern in the pretty small, windowless hallway of our old apartment (the wallpaper was called 'Samphire', by Farrow & Ball). And, with some matching warm teak furniture, and good warm lighting the space was elevated from shadowy white to elegant yet cozy. And never for a second did we think that the space felt smaller. As you say, lighting is important - we went with a pendant and a table lamp that both had a wide spread, and dimmable, warm light sources so it was easy to adapt.

The mirror tip is great. In my childhood bedroom my father switched out my closet doors for sliding mirror doors and it made my room not only look bigger but a whole lot better 😭😭😭

Great video, as usual! What helped my tiny apartment feel bigger is hanging art with visual depth. Open landscapes, oceans, mountains and wide valleys will trick your eyes into thinking they can see further than they actually can in your little space.

'Clutter' can feel fascinating with interesting pieces that negate the view of clutter and instead feel warm and comfortable with lots to converse about with guests. Totally becoming a maximalist with my antique, vintage and Indigenous eclectic taste:)

We need more videos on this topic, Nick. As a European living in a tiny European apartment, I find these decor tips really useful. Thank you.

Hope you enjoy the video everyone! Everyone defines a "small space" differently, depending on where you live or what you're used to. No matter what you call it, I hope you find these tips useful. It was also really hard to get photos of really, really small spaces that demonstrate my points, but I think you still get what I mean! Oh and metric people - 500sqft is about 46.5m - I forgot to add that in! 😅

Yes yes yes! Dark colors make the walls melt away, but look out for those high contrast edges when that dark wall meets the ceiling. Paint that sucker too! It looks gorgeous!

I moved my living room into my bedroom, comfy feel for guests and more room for me and sleeping. Also best way to not overload my living room with 'stuff', and I am done with white flats. Navy walls in living room.

I didn't know about mirrors and I never would've placed a mirror anywhere but my bathroom and in my walk in closet. Duly noted 👌

I really appreciate how your videos are straight to the point and concise! You explain everything well enough so it’s easy to understand, but keep the pace moving so I don’t lose interest. I love your videos!!
