Missy and I are continuing to follow your exploits and enjoyed meeting you at Alcor! I will believe the "Alignment Problem" is solved when you advise it so. (for certain values of "believe, "you, " and "advise")

~ 36:00 Humans also frequently feel frustration when learning something new. Does that mean that we should not train AI networks because (human) frustration can be described as suffering? I don't think so.

Our human/animal experience of pleasure and pain emerged naturally in a very different context than the one in which we created machines. Although principles of functioning are mostly overlapping, inputs and outputs are radically different and definitely unexperienceable to us humans/animals.

One very important difference is that our machines whether real or virtual, can replace any part of their body and at any point be as good as new, despite "suffering" or "mistreatment". Our own experience of suffering emerged from inability to effectively change/replace anything. Hand bitten off is gone forever. Kid eaten by wolves is gone forever. No water for 5 days, gone forever. Our perception of reality and of ourselves was shaped in this incredibly unforgiving, ever present dynamic, since multi-cellular organisms emerged.

I can only wonder how our experience of suffering would emerge through evolution if we knew that body damage/destruction meant nothing important.
We still dream about immortality while first sentient machines will literally be immortal. "Suffering" in that state surpasses our imagination.

Why would you upload your mind when all your family and friends are dead. Happiness must include the people you love or the survivor’s guilt will ruin you.

This guy talked a lot about nothing. A lot of "I think" was spoken. He was all over the place as well.

This man desires happiness without doing the personal awareness work that opens the doors to that which he desires. Desire is a trap.
The work takes a lifetime, many lifetimes and requires humans to connect within which concomitantly connects to the unknowable, unnameable, unspeakable.
Machines sporting speculation only (algo's), no connect to inspiration and creativity, have no future but deeper complexity and resulting human confusion.
Man, know thy Self...true wisdom.

Happiness and love are overrated. Life is way more than just that.
