When you read that I first heard "4.3 inch high" screen, and I thought WOW! That's HUGE! Then I read along with you and saw that it's actually 4.3 inch, "high resolution" screen, which puts it in the same size category as the 705 (my mistaken perception, not yours). I came within milliseconds of pushing the BUY button on a new IC-705 just a couple of days ago and thought, "Naw, think I'll wait and see what's coming at the end of the year". Glad I waited, as I want to see more on this. Until then, my IC-7300 can still be hauled along on portable activations.

Nice specs. Note that two independent receivers doesn't necessarily mean they do not mute the receivers when they transmit so full duplex for satellite operations remains to be seen in more details.

Pros and cons vs 817/818:

Pros: It exists. SDR, good waterfall/screen, certain orders of magnitude better performance on receive with filters/NB/NR, better battery life.

Cons: likely north of $1400, looks fragile compared with 817/818, certainly not water resistant, KX2 still the only "trail" rig with an antenna tuner bult in. Looks like no front antenna jack - it was great for a BNC "elbow" connector and a 3rd party 2m/70cm antenna.

Asides: Dual receive does not = full Duplex, no advantage on satellite (you don't listen to the uplink). "optional" cooling fan for FT-8 is concerning for over-heating. Would have preferred an updated version of 817/18 with rugged chassis, built in tuner, SDR capabilities, smaller screen (you don't need a waterfall activating POTA). Why would I buy this and not the 705? Why would I not get the cheaper Kx2?
