How much power does the 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 650XT Adventure produce? We run the middleweight ADV machine on the Cycle World dyno to find out.

--

The 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 650XT Adventure is the Hamamatsu manufacturer’s urban middleweight adventure bike. This V-Strom, like many other Suzuki motorcycles, is a do-it-all machine that packs the capability, yet an unassuming attitude that will get you wherever you’re thinking about going.

Just days before Suzuki announcing the all-new Suzuki V-Strom 800DE and V-Strom 800DE Adventure—which are both powered by the brand new 776cc parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree crankshaft—we placed the current V-Strom 650 on the Cycle World dyno for what will likely be its final time. That means putting the coveted 645cc liquid-cooled 90-degree V-twin that also powers the SV650 through its paces.

Strapped to the Cycle World Dynojet 250i dynamometer ahead of an upcoming comparison test, the Suzuki V-Strom 650 produced a peak 66.85 horsepower at 9,210 rpm and 43.04 pound-feet of torque at 6,560. A smooth power delivery is complemented by an overall flat torque curve of the V-twin powerplant. The result is an approachable and flexible engine characteristic that works well in nearly every riding environment.

That’s what adventuring is all about, isn’t it?

I've never had the 650 version of the Stron, but a riding mate has had two that I've ridden. The 650 is a smooth, long-lived wonderful engine. Cycle World magazine wrote "the DL650 may just be the most shockingly competent machine in the world today" (this was in September 2006) - it was way smoother than my 1037cc Vstrom and had great touring fuel mileage. He could manage 500kms from his 22 litre tank with panniers on

Had 2 3rd gen DL650's. Finally traded up to a 1050 DE. Didn't really like anything about it. In the end got a gsxs1000gt. Great bike although no more satisfying than the 650's, even with over twice the horsepower, more tech and brembos in front. Should have never sold the 650's, they truly are magical bikes.

And a 2023 1050 gets 93hp same test..it means that when you get the weigh/power ratio the 1050 doesn't worth it the money.
1050 - 0.38hp/kg
650 - 0.30/kg
Same difference toquewise

I had a 1050, and after 6 months I trade for 650 2023 best move I could do, 650 is so much fun, light, nimbo, dontget me wrong the 1050 has more tech...but I think 650 is spot on between power, weight and fun...and its much easier to commute in the city..love this engine.

Goes ok I guess. Max torque from almost 2k is pretty impressive.

I have a 2019. 650 strom it’s been an amazing bike I was worried I would get board of the low power compared to my zzr 1100 but with the k&n air filter and Akropvic exhaust and smaller rear sprocket it’s got enough power to still have fun and do long distance rides I have now done nearly 64000ks and have sold the zzr

Suzuki claim 71 BHP for the 2023 model at the crank so 66+ on a dyno is good.

Anything over 50hp is ok enough for me. My other bike has 125hp. I always have 3 bikes 😊

Looks like Suzuki found a couple ponies since I had my 2013, 2008, and 2006 models. Different dyno, different day, etc, but those usually would spin up just over 60 hp. I considered a 4th DL650, but I want to try something different. Lovely bikes, but the 1050 is where it's at these days if you are going to ride what is a physically large bike. I really wish the 650 was the same size and weight as the CB500X, especially with the new 800 coming. I've really come to prefer smaller bikes and always hopes Suzuki would springboard the SV650 into a lightweight scrambler/adv model.

Is the legendary V engine in the SV650/Vstrom getting replaced by Suzuki's new parallel twin engine??

Man I literally just bought the 2022 standard model with a 1000 dollar rebate, I weigh 300lbs and am 6'1" tall they told me to baby it for 600 miles, don't go over 6000 rpms. With my fat ass on it, it does 70 at 5000 rpms with a whole lot left, can't wait to brake it in lol but it's been raining every day except for one, go figure lol

Hello, I'm writing to you because I bought a new motorcycle in a store in Ireland. The store claims that it has full power and is not blocked. Unfortunately, it is different. In my opinion, the motorcycle has secured power and does not reach speeds above 160 km maximum speed. What do you think about it ? what to do ? Thanks

Great torque curve!! That's pretty linear!

Seems like it still wants to pull far beyond 10k.
