Wealthy owners are like nukes. Nobody really wants them, but once your rivals have them, you gotta have them to counter.

I'm Mark's age I 100% get why he feels football has become kind of ridiculous. I remember the 1 game a week, the teletext & staying up to watch match of the day. It was an event every Saturday night with my dad. I loved football so much more then

The amount of hypocrisy is insane. Happy for you United fans but don't forget what you said when this happened to city and Newcastle

True words mate, as an 'old' chelsea fan
I had to go (wich I loved ), supported them in the pissing rain on a Wednesday night in some obscure places, we were up and down the old 1st and 2nd
divisions but it seemed more passionate back in the day, ta for your content Mark from an old git.

I’ve been a United supporter for 30 years. If the clubs is bought with undemocratically made money I’m done. I’ll cancel my tv package. So many fans have no integrity. Titles won with endless money means nothing at all. It becomes meaningless.

As someone who doesn’t support a club, but follows the Premier League, I think people need to remember that there are more important things in football than the success of individual clubs. The health of the game and the competitiveness of the league means there has to be somewhat equal spending limits for each club.

The weird thing is, unlike Newcastle and City the likes if Liverpool and United don't really need an oil state to own them, they both generate enough money to be up there as long as they have a decent manager and structure. I don't get the clammer to have owners like this

I'm a Spurs fan and it now seems like rush to get new megarich owners in in order to even begin to compete. We are the new Super League which is becoming as gross as Perez and Co.'s initial plans

As a football supporter, there is two clubs I don't want to see being used as sportswashing clubs. That is Manchester United and Liverpool. If they become sportswashing clubs, football is over. They are possibly the only clubs that can compete against this insanity!

Fun fact: Qatar doesn’t have oil money, it’s Gas that there money comes from

So united is now a Gas Club and not an Oil club 😅

You don’t need to be super wealthy to compete, but you need to be super wealthy to sustain success. Liverpool have demonstrated both those points.

Lost respect for goldbridge, just exposed himself as a massive hypocrite, if Chelsea/arsenal/spurs was getting bought by qatar he’d be having a rant like crazy. Now he’s defending this madness, excellent work mark

I think its quite simple, yeah their are moral questions however we've seen that at the end of the day these type of owners are accepted with clubs like City & Newcastle

The thing that really gets me isn't simply whether you agree with states in the Middle East owning football clubs it's that a lot of football fans are so thick and unimaginative that *all* that matters is whether your team can buy players and win on a Saturday. Is that really the extent of your moral compass?

The new Qatar sportswashing project has begun.

Human rights issues
LGBTQ problems
And much more.

Doesn't matter what Qatar has/is doing, aslong as they're spending money on the squad it's all okay? Embarassing.

Spurs fan here. Not bitter at all but I disagree with the rich owners coming into clubs because it seems to tend to lead to a lack of opportunities for young players coming through (though not in every case). Overall I’d prefer the 50+1 rule like the Bundesliga has but completely understand how it would struggle to work here. It’s changed for our club too but part of the appeal of supporting Spurs was seeing academy or hidden gem players getting opportunities.
