Alfa Romeo has revealed the new Junior, a compact SUV with a fully electric powertrain based on the Fiat 600e and Jeep Avenger. Originally given the name Milano, it was changed to Junior at the 11th hour following legal action by the Italian Government, which claimed that the Polish-built model can’t bear the name of an Italian city if it isn’t built in the country. Blimey.

Back to the car, there are two fully electric powertrains offered – the first uses the 154bhp motor seen in various Stellantis  models. This gives a range of up to 250 miles from a 54-kWh battery. A sportier 236bhp VELOCE version will also be offered, using the same motor as the recently-announced Abarth version of the 600e.

The car will replace both the Mito and Giulietta in the range, with a length of 4.17m, width of 1.78m and height of 1.5m and will have a more ‘premium’ look and feel inside and out compared to the other brands in the Stellantis stable.

Despite its compact size, the Milano is said to have the largest boot in its class, with a load capacity of 400 litres.

Alfa promises the Milano will have Alfa-like driving dynamics and best-in-class road holding, thanks partially to a comparatively low weight. It has the most direct steering in the segment, and the VELOCE has 25mm lower suspension, bigger brakes and a special Torsen differential to offer the best possible traction in all conditions.

Other technology includes a ‘Hey Alfa’ voice-activated virtual assistant incorporating ChatGPT. Three option packs are available on the Milano, called Technology, Exclusivity or Sportiness. The Technology pack offers a handsfree electric tailgate, LED Matrix lights and connected navigation with virtual assistant. The Premium pack adds a vinyl-fabric blend interior, electrically operated driver’s seat with massage function, interior ambient lighting, and aluminium pedals.  The Sport pack offers Sabelt seats, Alcantara upholstery and sporty exterior features.

Prices have yet to be announced, but are expected to start at around £37,000.

We Italians love to complain, it's something we do as soon as we can, and it's undeniable who this car (I would say more Stellantis) gives easy opportunities to criticism.
For us Alfa Romeo is a special brand (I can't write its history, my English is too bad, but whoever wants can read something about and learn new things), so it's obvious that if "you" make a car that has a platform common to the other Stellantis brands (ie not specific for Alfa, like Giulia and Stelvio) and you build the car in Poland, some Italians (many) get pissed off.
After all, it's something that happens with all manufacturers (at least those with many brands, classic example is Volkswagen), it's one of the many ways to reduce costs (the same reason why it's not built in Italy).
That said, the design is Alfa, they did a good job, the car is (aesthetically speaking) nice, for sure how and more of its segment competitors; so, if the price will be right and the car does well, it will be the model that will allow us to continue making "true" Alfa like Giulia, Stelvio etc (it don't need to be a genius to understand it).

I bet people stick their own aftermarket "Milano" emblem on the Junior.

I understand many of the complaints this car is recieving, but alfa need a more cost effective model and one priced where it sells a good number, and i think it looks and will hopefully drive better than others in its segment.

I hope it does well as that will likely provide funds and finance to make the next model more of an Alfa. We need more alfas on the road - although not too many more that they are really common.

Love both my giulia i have recently given back after a few years of perfect driving, and now have a stelvio that i am enjoying equally as much.

I absolutely *love* that Nicola recruited Jack Scarlett for the rear seat legroom test. Even more hilarious that he left her "stuck"! Good fun.

I have to agree lighted heater vents are the bomb, I mean, how else are you going to know where the air is coming from at night?

I will never understand why Alfa has always beautiful brake calipers. But other car companies are putting back the drum brakes. Good job Alfa!

Alfa is a driver's car, forget the passengers! 😂 My Mokka E is as tight as that at the back so I wouldn't worry about it! And may I say one of the best reviews, very detailed, thanks!
