Homeowner, HOA fight over mailbox

The association has put a lien on a man's home over a $1,000 fine over painting a mailbox.

The HOA saw the misaddressed fines as an opportunity to take someone’s house. So they tried with all their might to do so.

I also got a letter warning me for having my organic container in my front yard when I was actually physically using it to throw dallas weeds in it trying to clean up my yard. DO NOT buy a house with an HOA, DO NOT. I sold my house and am now currently living in a neighborhood without an HOA. People can actually take care of their own yards without a babysitter.

Rule number 1 when buying a property - NEVER buy a property in an area which comes under the control of a HOA.  Do HOA's not work on behalf of the owners in the area - if so why can owners not just fire them, and appoint others who will maintain the area with common sense?

So the management company screwed up. Then they can fix the issue.

I'm not even in the homeowner association that is suing me. They keep losing so they are now trying to appeal the case to the Pennsylvania Superior Court.

Don’t know who is worse the HOA, management company or the lawyer who claimed that the HOA board can decide on if they take a payment plan. They are legally bound to do so

Typical HOA nonsense. The HOA Board and the management company screwed up but now want the homeowner to pay for their mistake. Even though they are in the wrong they won't reverse the fines because they know that it would cost the homeowner something like at least $5, 000 to take them to court but only $1, 000 to just pay the fine that he shouldn't owe in the first place so they know that more often than not they'll just give up and pay in the end.

Even better they want to benefit from their mistake by foreclosing on his house if he doesn't pay the fine.

HOA's are a scam. The management companies and the HOA attorneys are getting rich, the little dictators who gain control of the Boards get to abuse their authority and run the community as if it were their own personal fiefdom to lord over, and the suckers who are unfortunate enough to have bought into an HOA in the first place get screwed over.

HOA's are an abomination that should be banned.

Drive 80 MPH in a 50 and pay a fine. Don't pay the fine and see the judge. Maybe serve a week. Or pay a bigger fine. In an HOA, fail to paint your $75 mailbox and you lose your home. Seems a little out of whack.

Like the presence of an HOA or the lack of my own driveway and garage, a mailbox out on the street where it can get vandalized is a deal-breaker for me.
