This concert brings two artists with contrasting musical backgrounds together. Sound, tone, expression is combined in the wordless language of music. Tonight's repertoire is a mix of genres - folk music, contemporary improvisation, church music - which reaches out and beyond conventional styles and expected musical idioms. Be not surprised if you as listener recognize Gregorian chant behind the polkas and the twelve-tone music. Close your eyes and follow along on an unusual musical journey - join this concert in Älvsborg´s church through our live stream!
Music in Älvsborg in collaboration with Göteborg International Organ Academy present the GIOA Quarantine Concerts series of live streamed concerts for all who are at home and longing for live music. Simultaneously, we offer an opportunity for freelance musicians to perform in this period when many concerts are cancelled.

BIOS
Karin Nelson was born in Skellefteå in the far north of Sweden. She is professor in organ and church music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and in organ at the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg. She has a Ph.D. in musicology, the title of her dissertation being “Improvisation and Pedagogy through Heinrich Scheidemann’s Magnificat Settings”. In addition to concert activities in Sweden and abroad, Nelson has made numerous CD recordings, several with musicians from different genres where improvisation is included as a natural element.
Jonas Simonson is one of Sweden’s most innovative flutists within the fields of folk music and world music. During the last 35 years, he has toured the whole world and had a significant influence on the innovative folk music in Sweden. He has made many recordings in which you can experience his multifaceted and personal style. He performs with the groups Groupa, Zephyr, and Jormin/Nelson/Simonson. Jonas Simonson is professor in performative musical arts at the Academy of Music and Drama at University of Gothenburg, where he has primarily taught at the program of world music.
