What innovation is needed for community banks to be able to compete with the BIG banks? Is it even possible?

as a community bank customer....i in mind there is a regional bank called "1st bank" and a mega bank "wells fargo" right across the on the other a four way we have another regional bank "umb bank" and a credit union thats growing called there is my little "stockmens bank" with one of its only 2 worldwide branches lol

The old There are more banks, than there are bankers “ very true. Find a good banker who is interested in learning your business with you. Over time, that will be a great relationship for you and your business. Technology these days allows smaller banks to successfully compete with large banks believe to the local bank in your city and ask them.

My comment here might be self-serving as I work for a large bank. But to my mind your proposal here is the same as the evolution of the shared ATM network - 'Minibank, ' Visa-Plus network, et al. Why didn't that work? And why would this paradigm work now when it didn't work then?
