Highway 101 is mentioned in the 1950s song "Black Denim Trousers". It's about a reckless and uncaring motorcyclist who dresses all in black and frequently rides his hopped-up motorcycle (That he loves more than anything) on 101. One night his girlfriend has a premonition that something bad will happen to the biker and begs him not to ride that night. The biker rides anyway and gets hit by "A screaming diesel" train that's California bound. When the emergency services arrive all they find is the bikers black denim trousers, motorcycle boots and black leather jacket with a picture of an eagle on the back. But never find the motorcycle or the biker
