Glad Mottorad helped you out. But please try to remember what life is like for ‘everyday’ riders, not blog celebrities. 👍 we don’t all get the same treatment.

2-week turnaround for a blown motor replacement is amazing... I was expecting at least a couple of months. Also, I have no doubt, Ducati (SafeGuard) would have denied the claim. You do have to wonder if the Nate Kern call helped your case as well.

I bought a new 2018 S1000RR from my local dealer and my engine blew up outside the warranty (they do all my servicing) and BMW said this should have never happened and replaced the full engine at no cost... No drama, no fuss and two weeks later my bike was back on the road.. I cant fault BMW as they stand behind the customer and the product ... Two years later I trading in my 2018 in and bought a 2023 M Sport....

Really happy that bmw came through, and you have the bike back and running.😊

Changing ignition timing advance could have something to do with a catastrophic failure of a connecting rod. I imagine. High performance engines are definitely more "delicate" by their nature for sure! and BMW is aware of this and it's great that they replaced it for you! I like to think that if you use the engine in the manner the manufacturer recommends during the "break-in" period - the more likely the engine will last and last... and last. There are "use" behaviors that can accelerate damages to the engine - poor "warm up" - being too "wrist-y" with it... etc... etc...

HEY Bill,
What kind of damper do you recommend to help with the wobbling at a higher speed for the M 1000 R?

Hi Bill, so happy you got her back quickly. I'm a Napa-raised gal, living in Pismo Beach and just purchased this bike. I LOVE IT! I'm in AWE. Still breaking it in and my only negative is the buzziness of the bars and blurry mirrors. Any suggestions are hugely appreciated. Enjoy your channel. Thanks.

Great channel man. Been following you a while from Ireland. My m1000r is on the way should have it in the next 2 weeks.

How does this compare to the new SFV4S?

Failures happen no matter how stringent the build process or quality control. It’s how a company handles it that matters. Happy to see BmW stand behind their products. They make some of the best bikes out right now, hands down. I am a huge fan of the s1000rr and s1000r.

To all those worried about the M1000Rs engine, it's built in a manufacturing process you will occasionally, emphasis on occasionally have a faulty part. It is machine made by machines with upper and lower tolerances, as many quality controls there are there can always be a couple that will fall through the cracks. That's what the warranty is for

Glad your bike is back, however you really need to know why the rod shattered as many other owners including myself will wonder the reliability factor?

Hey bill what's your opinion on lowering the m1000r. I'm on tip toes and would like to lower it some.

The video showing the engine damage shows that you had a through exhaust system installed. Did you have any problems with replacing the engine under warranty? Did you put the stock exhaust system back on before returning the bike to the dealer?
The video shows the stock exhaust system after the repair.
