Don't underestimate the toll working the booth takes on your legs

I am so glad you didn't quit, and I'm glad you didn't whine about the route through the mud. Way to man up.

The 360 cam is so awesome. I love how we can see what’s going on ahead and around you. Like a head on a swivel. Pretty cool! I’ve been away and returned to see this. Great effort! ☺️😇😎👍

It's great that you show your tough moments. I feel too many people would edit those out. I love the relativity of a 23rd place in the most competitive gravel event in the world, averaging nearly 19mph even through muddy hike a bike being a bad day.

White sugar dissolved in water: 1 x 750ml bottle with 500g sugar per 4 hours. Just plain water in the other bottles and occasionally a salt tablet. I used this for unbound and managed to consume 1.2kg of carbs over the day. Super easy to do and no bonking over 14 hours.

Great vid and result Kerry. It take a few events to get the strategy down. Nice job hanging in and enduring those dark places. 22nd is an excellent result for your first 200!

A great report- all about the carbs - not easy to load if you are travelling the day before a race or working an expo.

Kudos for finishing. I get the impression that the wild temp swings played havoc on a lot of riders. Nearly as much as the mud did. Lots of riders talked about nosing over after Aid 1, I was one of them. Like you, I rebounded after it rained and my core temp lowered. I think its a lot harder to get calories down in the heat so my consumption rate shot up when it rained. Kinda turbo after that. Not much one can do about it other than maybe overcompensate a bit when it's cooler, dunno.

Wait I'm confused - the lesson is you have to eat way more, but by my math, 150g+450g+4 gels in the first 6 hours of the race is 120g of carbs per hour. I've never heard of anyone going over 140g per hour-by 'way more' do you mean 140 or even higher?

Excellent recap. So tough to pace correctly in a mass start event. Everyone starts too hard
