To be fair to Alan, the entry for the word "the" does take up quite a bit of space. It's just not anywhere near as much space as "set" takes up.

Alan, i suspect, was thinking about common words that are actually quite difficult to succinctly define, whereas Stephen seemed to be looking for someone to horsewhip to get over falling for the "gullible" joke. 😂

Generally speaking, in English the longer the word the more specific the meaning. The shorter the word the more it can be flexible to multiple situations. "Callipygian" for instance is extremely specific.

wow you dont realise how many meanings set has until you look it up. and then you get to the bottom and realise thats just the verbs and you've still got nouns and adjectives to scroll through ase=well. youd have thought we'd have split the word up by now
