If you like to read, I think you're gonna love this:

// One-sentence-summary of the video:
Dan explains the common mistake of sacrificing leverage for social media growth or money, and outlines the three types of distribution and three stages of a creator while emphasizing the importance of monetization and growing your brand with content.

// Summary, longer version:
Dan discusses how many creators make the mistake of sacrificing leverage for social media growth or money. He explains that while it may be tempting to focus on increasing followers and getting more attention on social media, it's important to also focus on monetization and growing your brand with content. This will allow you to create a sustainable and profitable business. Dan then outlines the three types of distribution: the network effect, the eternal markets, and the long tail. He explains that understanding these types of distribution can help you to better understand how to grow and monetize your business.

Dan also discusses the three stages of a creator, from beginner to advanced. He explains that at the first stage, creators are focused on building their brand and creating content, but may not have a clear understanding of how to monetize their work. At the second stage, creators have a better understanding of their audience and have begun to monetize their work, but may still be struggling to grow their business. At the final stage, creators have a well-defined brand, a clear understanding of their audience, and are able to consistently monetize their work.

Dan emphasizes the importance of not getting stuck in one business ideology and being open to pivoting as needed. He also mentions his self-paced course on digital economics, which teaches the systems for productizing yourself and growing your brand with content, leading people into your product or service, and automating or systematizing it to be profitable and efficient.

// Key findings in the video:

3. Stick at a low audience and you're in that cycle of I need to reach out and do manual labor or I need to get more followers.

You're the first influencer I'm ever going to purchase a product from, either the parasocial is insanely powerful or you're providing insane value for free 🤷‍♂️

I am not easily impressed by "self improvement business gurus", neither do I regularly comment on YouTube videos, but I have to say, you are a blessing and a genius, keep up the good work Dan Koe.

I found you yesterday. Everything you say is making so much sense to me. My last day of work was Friday, today is Sunday. I have liked and subscribed, because I’m spending the rest of today reviewing as many of your videos as I can so that I can make a roadmap for myself using my unique type and experience. You are an incredible gift Dan. THANK YOU!❤

This is possibly one of the greatest videos I have ever watched. You have made this all so straightforward and simplified it into Actionable steps instead of being vague like most people. Thank you so much for this Dan, it is truly appreciated!

This is BEYOND helpful. I've slowly been coming to a lot of these conclusions on my own (the early stage ones, because that's where I am), but having them articulated like this really hammers them home and helps me focus on what's next. Totally resonates with where I am right now and gives me a path for the future.

Was in a low today after shooting some new YT videos and getting in my head about marketing. This videos was insanely helpful to get my thoughts aligned and refocused. As a creator I always have moments of self doubt, esepcially while in the building distribution phase. I can say i ahve always had amazing products and services but never had distribution or understood it. Your channel has been an immense side kick to other learing mechanisms over the past year! Thanks and know you are appreciated!

Dan I've got say thank you. Ive been wading through an ocean of videos, looking to learn real shit, about different ways to be a one person business. What i've found is many people offering to teach how they did whatever they did. While never really giving any big picture ideas or honest commentary. Mostly just how easy it is to do whatever it is without really needing to lift a finger. Your insights are meaningful and profound. You are one of the only people offering this kind of truth. I thank you.

It is amazing to think about the amount of your content that I have consumed, I don’t know how to thank you for these videos you produce. Watching your videos has made me realise that what I want to create is not impossible, I want to start a business that I am passionate about, that allows me to attain financial freedom without having to build an empire with thousands of employees.

I’ve been having a hard time tying myself to a specific career and now I’m learning that I don’t have to, I can explore my interests, without necessarily having to go to College to study to get a job, share what I learn and monetise the knowledge I have.

We (me included) continue to search, learn, watch and listen instead of just taking fcking action! Seek help and advice once you get stuck in your venture... Ready, Fire, Aim. Best of luck 👊 btw liked and subscribed haha. Great value here!!

What you said about having a "Mental Monopoly" resonated with me big time. It's been literally happening to me every time I think of some things from your content that have impacted me the most. For instance:

- If you're lost, educate yourself. After that, execute. Then stay consistent.
- Social media makes you stupid. It's like being locked up in a room with all your best friends for a long period of time. It gets cringy.
- We make sense of things by metaphors, concepts and stories.
- If you're someone who's getting started and willing to get paid for something like a freelance service, why not just simply share that information online for free and get started as a creator.
- Some people escape from reality, some people accept reality. Others CREATE reality.
- Have a vision of yourself where you are a video game character with all maxed attributes.
- You're the sum of the stories you tell yourself. You can rig the game in your favor.
- When someone takes your advice, they're actually taking their own advice, not yours. A piece of advice comes from the sum of experience and perspective of reality you have. When someone takes it from you, they filter through their own sum of experiences and perspective of reality.
- Your attention breeds life to whatever you're focused on. (RIP JIMMY)
- "Crevices of reality" - I don't know, I just love those words together xD

Thanks for dropping those nuggets. They've been literally changing my life. Please, continue on your journey to bridge the gap between the physical, spiritual and digital worlds. You're killing it dude 💪

Really fantastic roadmap!

I actually started out as a freelance content writer in 2009 and learned DR copywriting and email automation in 2017 and got into brand strategy shortly after (basically stage 2). I got trapped in working about 18 hours a day (not good), so I shifted (slightly, I'm still a consultant and writer) to a membership model with a newsletter (stage 3).

Stage 3 actually felt the most natural because pattern recognition is really natural for me and I have lots of different experience (like my neuropsychology + cultural anthropology degrees -- with a dash of Star Trek -- I can bring to branding that carves out a space that's just me -- and makes it really obvious when people copy, which they do).

I never consciously worked stage 1, even though I had a small-but-mighty, loyal audience through networking (rather than continuously testing out short-form content), so I'm going back to that stage to work that more intentionally to go even deeper with the other stages.

And I do think with a model like this, it's more of a spiral where we continuously revisit the stages to reach a deeper depth (for lack of a better word) instead of just checking it off the list and not going back.

I know I've found that as I've grown the last 13-14 years and have more of a community focus, my audience has grown and shifted, too, so it's beneficial to ditch the ego and experiment with new ideas, short content, and quick ideas to see what'll resonate with my current audience at their current level rather than getting trapped in this idea that "I'm beyond this." (Which is bullshit and limiting anyway.)
