Lute Electric - SEA FACTORY - Part of the Documentary

Location - Abandoned tannery factory, Chania

In 2015 the first electric lute is being constructed in the island of Crete. The creator and designer Dimitris Sideris attempts a series of improvised music recordings in locations of exceptional acoustics, architectural structure and history. Affected by these features, the musician enters into a state of dialogue with each space, and gets inspired for on-the-spot compositions with the electric lute. The film introduces this prototype instrument and documents the progress of the project which concludes to a complete music production.

All filming locations were selected based on both their exceptional architecture and the evident sense of abandonment. Through their varied forms and structures, the buildings interact with the performer and eventually reveal unique paths for improvisation. As derelict sites, yet with clear signs of their former use and life, these vacant now spaces are turned into a timeless source of inspiration.
For the purpose of this documentary the shooting locations were used exactly as found with all their objects kept intact.
