I read an interview with a member of this film's VFX crew and originally, the sphere was going to be a huge stainless steel ball bearing, but the director wanted something that looked more alien. They kept trying different versions of the sphere until they came up with the version you see in the final film. The actors on set were acting as if it was green screen sphere was stainless steel, which is why their dialogue sounds a bit off.

This is one of the most underrated movies ever. Loved it. The cast, screenplay. Everything was remarkable.

I know this movie got mixed reviews and a lot of people say the book is way better (although books usually are). However, I absolutely loved it. The cast, the performances, the script, the soundtrack. To me it was stellar.

I wonder how many people eve know about his movie... It was obscure even in the 90s and rarely talked about but is one of my favorite science fiction films of all time!

Never seen this movie. When he said, "It's reflecting everything but us", that tripped me out. Now I definitely wanna see it.

"Its reflecting everything but us."
"Yeah well the special effects budget didn't cover that."
"Shush!"

They should make a sequel showing how the American spaceship caught the sphere, and how it killed the crew.

The director should have provided more suspense leading up to the discovery of the Sphere. He just "threw it" out there for the audience to see.

Everyone knows its a Prothean artifact. It probably contains information on how to stop the Reapers.

This movie has been a re-watch for years. Love it. It has the potential for a prequel if done correctly, but these days people just screw up prequels and sequels, so it's a tall order.

What worries ME is it’s reflecting everything but US!

"An intelligence, far beyond ours? A shape for something, that has no shape?" <-> "Perfection, it's a powerful message!"

The most frightening thing most people missed is that if Earthlings developed deep space travel, it's also possible the sphere is man-made and was a weapon developed to protect the crew as they explored the galaxy.

I know that's not a popular opinion but imagine what would make sense in real life. This is humanity we're talking about. No way they developed interstellar travel and atom bombs were still the most dangerous weapon they had.

That sphere is exactly the type of weapon humans would develop.

“ It’s reflecting everything but us.”
*Shines a flashlight on it, does not reflect back*
“And you need your eyes checked.”

I didn't think the movie was THAT bad, but this is 13-year old me talking who watched it when it came out. I haven't watched it since. I do remember the book being excellent though when I read it.

"A perfect sphere"? Like a lake with ripples is "perfectly flat"?😄
