What is kojic acid

Kojic’s acid primary use — and benefit — is to lighten visible sun damage, age spots, and scars. This ultimately gives you those anti-aging effects that youre looking for.

How does kojic acid work

Unlike other acids that work by dissolving the bonds between the cells and exfoliating the skin, kojic acid works by inhibiting pigment production, responsible for…pigment. It inhibits and prevents the formation of tyrosine, which is an amino acid that’s needed to produce melanin. Unlike alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy acids, kojic acid won't even out your complexion by chemically exfoliating the outermost, dead layer of skin.

Is kojic acid safe

Kojic acid is well tolerated. There are issues of contact dermatitis. Something to keep note of, which is why I would spot test it first before applying it to the face. First on the arms, then the neck. But Generally speaking, kojic acid is better tolerated than most acids, but an allergy or irritation is certainly possible. But nevertheless, It’s been approved for use in cosmetic products in concentrations of 1 percent or less.

How long does kojic acid take to work

Dont throw it out if nothings changed in 2 weeks. You may see greater results — or faster results — if you also add glycolic acid to the treatment as well or another ingredient that ill get to in a bit.

There is a skin care product from Japan called Kikumasamune lotion, I don't know if you have heard of it, but this lotion (it's actually more like a toner from what I've seen because it is of a very watery consistency, but for some reason in Japan they call it a lotion) but this lotion is basically sake fermented rice water which is where kojic acid is derived from. I have heard that sake is kojic in it's natural state and whenever it's processed in labs turning it into acid it becomes synthetic. So, Kikumasamune I guess would be more natural as it comes directly from the fermented rice. I would like to try Kikumasamune lotion but I am hesitant to do so because in the past I had an allergic reaction to kojic acid soap, real bad contact dermatitis where my skin actually marbled (don't know if this lotion from Japan should be compared to kojic acid soap which maybe is more synthetic) but because of my past allergic reaction to it, I don't know if trying kojic acid in its natural state from fermented rice would be okay for me. Dr. Aspires, could you please give me your opinion on the matter? It would be very helpful to have your input and greatly appreciated as well, thank you.
