Syria's 55 year-old dictatorship fell in December of 2024, changing the entire nation's modern history. After 14 years away, we travel back to Syria with a Yes Fam family Tarek and Alia to re-visit their old home that was miraculously still intact from the war. This time both Thomas and Ammar got to travel there together in one of the most powerful trips we've ever had.

Hello friends, our story here was filmed a month ago and the focus of our story here was on our Yes Theory subscriber Tarek and his mom Alia getting to go home for the first time in 16 years. Since this was filmed however, violence broke out and many minorities including Christians and Alawites have been targeted in revenge attacks, which we mention briefly in the intro and outro. The images were horrible and definitely cast a dark shadow on a lot of the joy that we felt in people while we were there. We will address more of that in our second episode coming out next week, we wanted this story however to emphasize the relief that so many who had to flee experienced once the dictatorship fell. The situation seems to have calmed down for now and we pray that peace will prevail in the country and that all these various sects and religious groups will find a way live together to build a new future for Syria

Being from Syria, Ive been away for 17 years, now im 30, i left when they arrested my father. Seeing this brought me joy and happiness. Im coming back after 17 long years. Unfortunately I don't know anyone, no family or friends there. But im so happy and looking forward to it.

Tarek's mother is a beautiful soul. She becomes the mother of anyone she meets. Hell, I feel like she's my mother now. I really wish for the best for the future of Syria and all of its people

I got to go to Syria for the first time after 15 years. I went last month. I got to see my family, my neighborhood, my childhood friends after so long. Seeing the liberation of Syria was the best thing that’s happened to me.

18:03 is one of the most beautiful moments you've ever captured during your decade-long adventures. I literally cried. Two generations singing together in celebration of their freed homeland. I deeply hope they get the peace they deserve

I’ve never cried watching content on YouTube until today. I’m a 56 year old who at times feels pretty jaded about the world and how messed up it is, but you guys give me hope and I truly appreciate the light you bring to the planet.

As a Syrian citizen who has never left his country, I have seen most forms of injustice and heard all forms of torture. These stories continue to break my heart. We are the ones who will rebuild beloved Syria again. Stay tuned.💚💚

As a Dutch guy i used to work for an international Syrian company in the late 90s and early 2000. I visited the country many many times and made a lot of friends. at a sertain point the factory was bombed and the company simply seised to excist. Loosing all contact with all the friends i made over the many years often wondering how they are today. I hope one day when it is more stable to go their and see if i can find the friends i for sure made for life. It always amazed me how kind and generous the people i med were. In your video of today i as pleased to see many places and street i have been still standing.
