Larry Page and Sergey Brin began working on a search engine project called "Backrub" while they were still graduate students at Stanford University.

As Google's search engine technology began to gain attention for its effectiveness and accuracy, the duo attracted their first angel investor, Andy Bechtolsheim, who was also one of the co-founders of Sun Microsystems.

In August 1998, Bechtolsheim wrote a check for $100,000 to "Google Inc." even before it was formally incorporated. He was impressed by a brief demo of the search engine and saw its potential.

Today, Google is one of the world's most valuable and influential tech giants, known not only for its search engine but also for its diverse portfolio of products and services.
