Canada imposes new sanctions on Belarus officials over human rights violations | Power & Politics

Ottawa is imposing sanctions on 21 officials in Belarus accused of human rights violations since the country's 2020 presidential election, which has been widely denounced as fraudulent. Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who was in Ottawa this week to meet with Justin Trudeau, says sanctions from the international community are 'the most influential instrument' to weaken the Russian and Belarusian regimes.
