Chainsaw the mass of it, then torch the stalks/roots. Torch often!! LOL!!

Unless you are a panda, bamboo is always a bad idea. Very invasive.

So glad you are now able to get out again, Phil. I am sure it was quite an inconvenience, however, I think in the long run you will be able to appreciate all the improvements that were made. Nice work on clearing the gateway.

My neighbour and I cleared a huge clump of bamboo in the summer which had travelled by the rhyzomes under the ground from another neighbour. What a job! We cut stalks down to about 6" and painted neat Gallup XL (not cheap but so effective) on the stalks. It's taken a while but we have finally done it. Left a few weeks, topping up a couple of times. We managed it. Bent the prongs on the fork getting the clumps out, but so happy now it's gone.

Yes Phil, bamboo AND ivy should NEVER be planted anywhere!! And those who plant them should have to dig them all up and be fined with Big $$$! We have the same problem here in the PNW, US and it's because ignorant people don't know what is invasive and what isn't, also the nursery's that sell those plants should be fined big $$$ also. So, good for you for trying to keep all of yours in check. The gate is looking great, so glad you are uncovering its beauty!

PHIL If you cut down the bamboo then keep cutting down the tops eventually it will die as the root system gains it’s energy from the tops…

Hi Phil, well that was a job well worth doing 😊 The pillars look amazing and the fact they are in good condition makes life easier. Can’t imagine the cost involved in replacing them . Are the gates as good?
Looking at the chateau now from outside the gates is even better. It is a beautiful home you have. Enjoy music night 🎶 . Keep smiling. Judith 🦋

So glad you can get out, it's done now, so onwards and upwards with the rest of the garden and the chateau. Yes, bamboo is a proper pain, it's so destructive, I think on a par with Japanese knotweed, both very invasive and a nightmare to get totally rid of. Take your time Phil, there's no great rush really . Everything has been full on for the last few months and you've worked so hard, you deserve a break. Hope you have a good night at the bar.Take care, we'll hopefully see you soon 👍.

As you know, we get a lot of ivy here in Devon, we found the best way to cope with it was to cut a gap in every stem at the bottom and then let it die. It was then easier to remove once it was dead. We were told that copper nails would also kill it in time.! We saved our oak tree that way.

"End of that feeling" sums up weather turning warm to cold. We live across the pond in the USA. Sounds like we have an abbreviated summer in common. Bamboo and Wisteria are best kept in the wild. Your gated entrance can become lovely again. Thanks for the well-edited video. 👍👍👍
