Errortale: Starting Point of Error WITH LYRICS | Error Sans Fansong (Undertale AU)

This song is absolutely nuts and the remaster for it makes it so quintessentially Error. While he may be a massive manchild, Error is capable of horrible destruction, and I wanted to bring that part out more so than anything else with these lyrics. That combined with the tragedy of becoming an 'error' is what I focused on. I was writing taking into account both the original blog and other famous media containing him, so hopefully some of you can see that in what I wrote.

On another note, Error is probably one of my favourite AUs and I'll forever remember both him and Geno for properly getting me into Undertale AUs in general. Thanks loverofpiggies.

I CANNOT express how excited I am! I am being 100% genuine when I say that your lyrical covers have put every single other one that I’ve heard (other than Pugman Producing’s Megalovania with Lyrics, which is about on equal grounds to your songs) to SHAME.

I don’t know what it is, the lyrics, the voice, the emotion, but something about it is just BETTER than all of the ones I’ve heard.

2:58 God I really love this section. I cant stop thinking about it and what it could mean. At first I thought error was repeating how his encounter with underswap and underfell sans went. The blue and red colours point to this along with the tone of each. The blue section seems more upbeat and positive with a "let me be the one to help you" vibe to it, matching with underswap sans's personality whereas the red is more along the lines of "even when things are horrible and you've lost your way, it can just take one person to pull you out from that darkness." which happens to not only underfell sans, but everyone else in that AU thanks to their frisk showing them a better way. Then the last section is error talking to whatever sans he's facing and repeating the same speech that every other sans gives him and boiling it down to "you only say that I can change because you dont want to be erased.

However, upon listening again, I found another interpretation that I find far more interesting. Instead, blue is aftertale's regular sans talking to geno, red is geno talking to error and black is error talking back to geno. Blue starts with sans questioning geno's plan of erasing their timeline ("Why are you killing? Why are you fighting?") and follows up by questioning why geno won't be honest with him. "Choose the right option. Its not too late yet." Is representing how they can still try sans's plan rather than erasure and the "let somebody in, stop stopping them when they're trying to find you" seems to be referencing geno's habit of erasing sans's mind any time he ends up questioning the plan. As for red, the whole first section section being identical to blue is a nice parallel. Sans is shocked that an alternate version of himself would want to erase their own timeline, and seems to be asking out of said shock more than anything; meanwhile geno has been in a similar position to error before, and so is asking with a more genuine curiosity as he feels as if he's in a position to just talk down error due to the fact he's been through this before. The second half is geno backing all of that up by essentially saying "look bud I've literally been through this; if I can change, so can you. You just need to let someone in.". Finally, the black section represents error speaking back to geno. If we assume that this encounter takes place as geno is watching the final pacifist run and getting his hope back that things can change (probably around the time geno has his chat with gaster), then this makes a lot of sense. Error dismisses all of geno's questions because he knows his issue is far beyond geno's. He knew geno wouldn't understand hence why he was "expecting less". Also the "from someone like you, whose lost all to lose yet still keeps your head up smiling." lies up pretty well with geno at this (assumed) point; he's trapped in the save screen with seemingly no way out, no way of knowing if sans will come back for him, but at least he knows that frisk went through with a pacifist timeline. That makes this section incredibly poetic in that its just error repeating conversations that he's had with multiple different versions of specifically himself at different stages of being himself. Conversations that start with the earliest versions of him. The starting point of error if you will. I know that my reasoning here isnt exactly perfect, but thematically its too good for me not to accept this.

The lyrics here are absolutely phenomenal Kwesta. I think this is gonna be stuck on repeat in my head for a good while now

Holy shit this is one pleasant surprise! Starting Point of Error has always been one of my favorite megalos and seeing a lyrical cover from you in my recommended is awesome! In terms of my favorite verses, I love the bit where the chorus is like "BE THEIR SCOURGE, YOU'LL BE THEIR RIGHTFUL BANE, DON'T WAIT FOR THE RAIN!" as well as your delivery on the "For the dawn of a new age!", which carries such a certain power to it thats really satisfying to hear.

The reprise of the "Sure you're not bored" which has been present across most of your lyrical covers is also a very nice touch as well. Idk if it counts as a leitmotif for your covers but its the closest term I can think of. And with the twist Error puts on it, acknowledging the repetitive nature of his quest to eradicate all outliers from the multiverse.

In fact, as I write this, I'm starting to realize the parallels that Error holds to the idea of the Player. The idea of him being the key to their freedom, and how that idea gets twisted on the *Geno* route. An Angel of Death, liberating their SOULs. Something that he hated a lifetime ago, when he was Geno, is what he himself has become on a larger scale. Just as the player is wracked with a perverted sentimentality as mentioned by Chara when you repeat the geno run several times, Error also holds a touch of that as well. His idealization of the original Undertale, of how the story was supposed to go, has lead to holding that world in an almost sacred regard, at the cost of everything that was inspired from it. Eradicating what he sees as pointless worlds, and moving onto the next.

He will choose to liberate you all.

Anyways tl;dr banger song and nice error characterization. I could've gone on longer but i dont wanna write a whole ass essay lol.

Edit: the "walking amongst the deaf and lame, thinking that you aren't just the same" is also one of my fav lines too.

I think the idea of Errors ultimate motivation being to preserve the purity of "something we all hold dear" that being Undertale, rather compelling!

Something I always kinda thought about, too... If Error somehow managed to accomplish his goal of destroying all aus and preventing the creation of new ones... Then surely his last act would be to erase himself right..? I imagine he always saw himself as one of the 'good anomalies' but still an anomaly, and when the time comes, he too would have to forefit his existence for the sake of the purity he strives for...
