The fact they didn't use actual puppets is such a missed opportunity

Let's not forget how this movie completely ruined Pinocchio's character: he never makes mistakes and is always the victim in every situation.

Now remember: Disney uses CGI for everything because almost all other film groups are unionized, but CGI groups often aren't and can thusly be abused with long hours and under payment

I heard they also ruined the moral about skipping school. In the original, he's tempted to go to pleasure island, and chooses it over school. In this remake, he chooses to go to school, then the school kicks him out for being a puppet, then he goes to pleasure island. So instead of learning a valuable lesson about the consequences of his own actions, now he's a victim.

Also it’s implied that Pinocchio goes with the fox because he was bullied, rather than because he was naive and gullible. In the original, Pinocchio never gets to school and the fox convinces him that school is for chumps and that being an actor is better. In the remake, Pinocchio is bullied and kicked out of school because he’s a puppet, and then goes with the fox. It totally destroys the message of the story from the start.

review was pretty spot on. Can Disney STOP treating 2D animation like it's a sin that needs to be overwritten? It's an art form, leave your old IPs alone. We don't need to see a "live-action" that just ends up being cheap uncanny-valley GCI anyway.

"She serves no purpose and only exists to pad out the runtime."

How... as Disney... do you *invent filler plotlines* for an 80 year old movie's remake...

It really feels like Disney just wants to end their own company at this point, like a suicidal immortal.

Im astounded by how bad the cgi was. They're literally devolving, probably because of how they underpay and overwork their vfx artists :/

Funny that in the Pinocchio movies the people is freaked out about a walking puppet and not the two metres tall Fox in hobo clothes.

Pinocchio using his growing nose to get a key to escape imprisonment is exactly what they did in Shrek 2.

About the donkey-beer thing, when I was 4 I accidently drank a sip of my dad's hard lemonade thinking it was normal lemonade. I then ran from my neighbors house to my house sobbing thinking I would turn into a donkey. Then I never drank any alcohol until I was 21 to make a point to my dad. So, yeah, the consequence thing definitely does work

Also, Pinocchio purposefully lying to make his nose grow was literally already done in Shrek 2. I can’t believe Schaff didn’t mention that.

Del Toro's version of Pinocchio came out awhile back and MAN is it great!

The scenery of the whole thing is stunning, the entire thing is in stop motion and they've been working on it for 5 years if I remember correctly.

The story is heart-wrenching and will (probably) make you cry the entire time. You get attached to the characters (Pinocchio, Geppetto, CandleWick, The Cricket guy thing, sorry can't remember his name) and just want to hold them and watch em and (for me at least) protect them with all your heart.

I hope you watch the movie and can give a review on it and enjoy it as much as I do! More people should watch this movie honestly.

4:48 "Also, in the scene where his nose grows, instead of it fully being about learning a lesson that lying is bad, now he instead uses his growing nose as a means to get the key and escape."

So they even ripped off of Shrek 2?

My favorite part of the movie is when Pinocchio said "Father, when can I leave to be on my own"

I understand why they removed the smoking and drinking alcohol references to make it more family friendly. But now, it just seems like the kids are being punished for doing typical childlike things, like consuming candy and root beer, which defeats the whole purpose of the Anti smoking and drinking moral.

After seeing the vibrant and colorful love letter to Italy that was Luca, perhaps the most disappointing aspect to me was seeing how soulless and dreary this Pinocchio’s Italy is. Even in the 1940 animation, the backdrops themselves seemed to come to life on canvas. It’s sad to me that if I didn’t know this was set in Italy, I would have never known wherever this sad, grey village takes place in.
