The 'bigger picture' evolution timeline will help clear up some confusion and help you understand where they fit with each other. So for desktop apps: Winforms came along, then WPF 'replaced' that with it's declarative UI in XAML, then UWP was the evolution of WPF, now WinUI 3 is the next evolution but not all features you'd expect are implemented yet. So for desktop dev WPF is most stable with lots of tooling and for the newer versions of windows it's time to jump to learn what WinUI 3 is all about. Then there's cross platform and mobile offerings along the way that fit in there when MS Teamed up with Xamarin.

You can use multiple desktops in Windows:
Hit Ctrl + Win + D to create a new desktop, the use Ctrl + Win + Arrow keys to switch between them.
You can also hit Win + Tab to bring up the multitasking view (or click the icon on the task bar) and change them from there.

As a Software Eng student who's trying to enter WinUI with little to no WPF knowledge, seeing an experienced js programmer confused about this makes it feel much more approachable. Belgium is a total homie btw. They made this way easier to understand.

If you want to learn the basics of WPF start with a normal WPF application not a WinUI3 WPF application. The help of the designer which from forums isn't going to be made available until maybe 2023 is a massive help to figure out how things work.

You should record your exploration progress and make it into a series. I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate a reference to start their project

Love your stuff. I would watch hours of you learning to program. Microsoft should hire you to make their stuff more human friendly
