It doesn't make one of them good. It doesn't make one of them bad...it just makes you Awesome!!

It's just not either/or it's Both/and. There's no war. You do you.

I doubt I even can. Hardware just inspires me so much more.

it's also possible to set a limitations in DAW workflow

I think this video captures everything there is to say on this perennial debate. Good job!

100 percent. I see guitarists loving the feel and look of their guitars, I feel the same way about a fine sounding (and looking) hardware synth or in my case my Nord piano.

Been struggling with getting quality final mixes/automation with hardware. I 100% agree hardware is more inspirational, but I just can't afford the gear it takes to do what I want without a DAW.

Change the process, change the outcome.

The only “dawless” is 100% analog. If your setup has any digital audio whatsoever, it is at least partially a Digital Audio Workstation. Use what you like to use!

My creative inspiration comes from playing with hardware. However, I can create in either (hardware or software).

Hardware can produce a cohesive sound. It’s the best way to learn how to go from a to b. But there’s also GAS. We can give ourselves limitation in a DAW as well 😅 When is a limitation an excuse to buy new hardware? Just asking for a friend btw..

I prefer to be limitless in my creativity 🤷‍♂️

Ugh, a totally rationale opinion shared kindly. So not YouTube. Thanks JNJ!

Yeah I agree with this. I guess maybe people say “you can do that in the DAW” as a way of saying you don’t need to spend all that money. Obviously your point is that buying the gear will lead to a different path. But it costs money to get there. Personal choice on whether that’s worth it to someone.

To take it to the ridiculous extreme you could enter every sample in a 44.1kHz waveform by hand. What matters is the efficiency and flexibility of the tools to get you there

Maybe I am missing something, but, i have yet to find any VST instruments or effects, that can create the same quality of raw, present, saturated sound, like even a cheap analog synth through pedals into a bass or guitar amp.

Those sounds fill a room, and I am in a Doom/Psych/Stoner band, and i need my sounds to do so, especially live.

Having to carry around a minivan full of gear to play a show sucks, so I have tried all sorts of modeling VSTs, but especially for the sorts of sounds i need the VST based in the box style of doing things always sounds far too anemic

If anyone has any idea as to how to get around this, i am all ears.

Mixing is certainly possible and in the box with someone who knows their stuff and their plugins. But creating, generally comes out bland if created in the box.

True, but one is WAY more expensive than the other. I feel analog people love to flex their setups while feeling superior🤷‍♂️

Dawless just seems inefficient to me. How can I edit 20 instruments with automation curves with a tiny screen? Im sure it can be great for some things and a lot of fun. But for complex or sounds design no thanks.
