The producers of the film "Run Hide Fight" contacted me in April 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic to see if I would be interested in providing vocals for the end credits of their film. The song "Eve of Destruction" (a cover of the 1960's protest song by Barry McGuire) was being produced by The Mondo Boys in Austin, Texas. Because I live in Los Angeles and due to the intense lockdown at that point in the pandemic, one necessity would be for me to be able to engineer my vocals solo in a recording studio with no one else present. My home studio isn't up to film-quality vocals, but I was lucky to have my friend Moby offer his home studio for me to use without him present.
This is my first take just working through the lyrics. You can hear me stumble on some of the words and see I am figuring out where to tape the lyric sheet so I can read the words and still keep my head up to sing into the mic. It was fun for me to record by myself without the pressure of other people listening in. And credit to the Mondo Boys for taking these rough vocals and making me sound great in the end.
The final song is in the film and also linked in a video at the end of this one.
