*Update 3-15-23
This video is now 2 years old and so it's possible things have changed since we posted this video. There seem to be a lot of people in the comments having trouble, while others even to this day are using the guide and it's working fine. Our experience with people having problems with the steps is that there is something small they did not follow correctly, like removing the screw or reinstalling it. Also it seems tons of people are using a different chromebox expecting the same results, please look for another guide if you aren't using an Asus Chromebox 2 (CN62). This is not a guide for ASUS Chromebox 1 or 3, but we do have a guide posted here on youtube for the chromebox 3. It's also not a guide for chromeboxes made by Acer, HP, etc.

Have an Asus Chromebox 2 (CN62) that's in "Meetings mode" and you just want to use regular Chrome OS to browse the Web, etc? On start up Press CTRL+ALT+H and when the prompt asks if you want Meetings Mode select "NO." :)

PEOPLE WITH HP CHROMEBOX:

These steps *do* work. When the PC restarts after enabling developer mode, your menu is different and I didn't need the "ctrl+h" portion as it was already in the right menu. Simply connect to Wi-Fi and follow his next steps.

I never leave comments - but this video is 100% worth it - the speed of the presenter, the clarity - this video has to be the BenchMark on how to present the technical upgrades, updates. 5 star, thanks. PS I suggest you open the channel for upgrades / updates etc people 100% will follow you!

Windows 11 runs solidly as well. I have not watched your video yet because I already have Windows running nicely on my 1st-gen Asus Chromebox and have for many years now but I will watch shortly. I just wanted to say though that a few months ago I upgraded to Windows 11 and it runs perfectly fine on this now super old and very basic device lol. I have 16 GB of RAM and a basic 200 GB SATA SSD. For installing all of the missing drivers I really recommend everyone uses the free / open-source Snappy Driver Installer tool.

THANK YOU GUYS!! I did something a little different though and installed Raspberry Pi OS on mine. So my Chromebox is now a Raspberry Pi hahaha. I'm gonna have to get more of these old Chromeboxes. Mine was an HP, so yes it works on HP ones! Essentially I have an HP Raspberry Pi.

This worked great for me. I had some issues trying to get a Windows install USB on a Mac and had to get a friend to do it for me on a Windows computer. Everything else worked great. Mr. Chromebox is awesome he provided me with some help during install. Thank guys for a great video.

Really good one. I installed Ubuntu Desktop which runs pretty fast with 4GB RAM and 16GB disk. Used CTRL+ALT+F2 to get to command prompt.

After some investigation into this process I discovered that Alex is actually using a CN62, which is a Chromebox 2, to reconfigure. If you are trying to reconfigure a CN60, which is a Chromebox 1, your screens are going to be slightly different. However, all ASUS Chromebox models are pretty similar. When you hold in the reset button and press the power, they will all boot into an OS verification screen where you can then hit ctrl+d to enter into developer mode. So the look of the screens make very little difference in the process. Just REMEMBER...you need to get the system into developer mode. Once in developer mode you need to figure out how to connect to your WiFi and then press ctrl+alt+f2 to get into a terminal to put in the commands specified by Alex to reconfigure the BIOS. If your internet connection is by wire you are already on line and can just press ctrl+alt+f2 for a terminal. When configuring a Chromebox 3 (CN65) the process is exactly the same. No matter what the model, or even the make of the Chromebox, the process is very similar. Once the system is booted with the reset button pressed in, you will boot into the first OS verification screen. By pressing ctrl+d the system will go into developer mode. When you are booted back into Chrome, this is normal. Just click on "LET'S GO' or "LET'S GET STARTED". This will bring up the screen where you can connect to your network. Once you are connected you press ctrl+alt+f2 to pull up the terminal and follow the commands Alex gives you and your Chromebox will be flashed for a new OS. Simple as that...

Hey, I just found your store while looking for a new pc. Hope you do more vids on what you have and things to watch out for. Saw a refurbished computer you were selling on Newegg and do some work and found you sell on line. Like your site, also on Facebook. Need to ask a few questions about how you test before shipping and if they are ready to run with Window installed or what. Looking for a compete tested gaming ridge and will try to call direct if your not to busy. Good luck, keep up the good work. Glad I found you.

This looks like exactly what I
I need to install either OpenSuse or Linux Mint. Chrome did not do what I wanted. I had assumed that I could simply do an install on this Asus Chromebox, and was very disappointed to find that it was locked into Chrome. Presumably the same methods you describe will work on Linux I plan to Comments or suggestions appreciated. ** Windows Free for 20 years now!! I fought with the early versions up to '98, then went to Mandrake and then Suse...Never looked back!!
