I recommend Starship Troopers for Military SciFi. Mostly a large philosophical debate framed around a futuristic militaristic society.

I also remember reading the Magicians Nephew very early on and it also blew me away. Definitely better than Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe in terms of mind being blown

Historical fantasy recommendation (i think), the Red Knight first book of the Traitor's Son Cycle by Miles Cameron. Its is a different version of 13th century Europe with fantasy monsters and races, it also has an interesting take on dragons. It also has a magic system of its own that he describes pretty well. I think it would be also classified as grimdark too.

I haven’t read much historical fantasy, but I really enjoyed She Who Became the Sun and its sequel!
