The real reason why is because in the Cell Saga when Goku was taking Gohan to the Cell games, Chi Chi made Goku promise to get a job when he came back in return as Gohan "Needed to study" to generate revenue, since post-cell games Goku was dead for 7 years, he could never get that job, and of course during the Buu saga he did not have time to because of a) 24 hours, b) the world martial arts tournament provided a large sum of prize money, and c) Buu himself. So that's why he works as a farmer in super, and actually, 2015, when super started, wasn't the first time we saw this, but it was in the OVA or special "Yo Son Goku and friends return" in 2008, where he was a radish farmer, a radish farmer, because of his brother Raditz, obviously a pun on Radish.

I could have sworn that he would actually liked farming, since his training with Kamesennin actually had him farming for a few months, that is just another way of training his body and mind
