Rather than increasing the exposure, I find in a lot of cases, slightly increasing the whites produces a more pleasing effect.

Thanks for all of the great tips. Wondering in the case of just making the faces lighter why would you not use the "face skin" mask in select people rather than the brush tool?

BTW - I wonder why do we need both masks here ?
If for example you increase the subjects exposure by 0.3 and decrease the background exposure by 0.3, wouldn't it be equivalent to simply increasing the overall exposure by 0.3 and decreasing just the background exposure by 0.6 ? ( for the first case when you brighten the subjects including their clothes :)

In my LR classic version 11.7.0 I don’t have the option to select which person. It automatically selects both, then I have to erase if I’m only editing one of the people. How do you have that option?

Now that I am retired, Adobe makes it so much A day late and a dollar short. Hard to image how many hours of editing these new features could have saved...
