I love how French naming stuff is just like how your younger sibling just copies what you say all of the time 😂

It is the same word in the Romance languages because it comes from the Latin "pisces", which means fish.

The way my French 1 teacher got us to memorize the word “pool” was “do not piscine the pool.” This was over zoom and it totally caught me off guard. Safe to say I won’t be forgetting the French “pool” any time soon.

French teacher taught us, “what do you NOT do in the pool? Don’t piscine the pool!”

Loic is simply masterful at exposing differences in languages that on the surface make no sense and doing so in such a creative way that I just can't get enough! He deserves some sort of award by some international language commity somewhere for sure! AND a comedic award for making it so damn funny! Love, Aime, Quiero mucho TODO.... En plus d'être mignon à botte ! 😊
Bravo and thank you!!!

My family went to a public pool when I was a kid. It had a sign that said, "Welcome to our OOL. Notice there's no P. Let's keep it that way."

Funnily enough French is not the only language that does this. In Spanish we call it piscina.

In France’s perspective, they’re probably wondering why “piss in” sounds like “swimming pool”.

The people who pee in pools are the same ones who wear shoes in the house

In Spanish, we learned a few words for pool... “Piscina” was one that my teacher always seemed a bit cautious of saying. I never understood until she said, “Piscina — Pool” over and over. And then suddenly the whole class also understood. From then on, she only ever said, “Alberca — Pool.”
