Album: Hurdy Gurdy Man (1968)

Lyrics: Jennifer Juniper lives upon the hill,
Jennifer Juniper, sitting very still.
Is she sleeping ? I don't think so.
Is she breathing ? Yes, very low.
Whatcha doing, Jennifer, my love ?
Jennifer Juniper, rides a dappled mare,
Jennifer Juniper, lilacs in her hair.
Is she dreaming ? Yes, I think so.
Is she pretty ? Yes, ever so.
Whatcha doing, Jennifer, my love ?
I'm thinking of what it would be like if she loved me.
You know just lately this happy song it came along
And I like to somehow try and tell you.
Jennifer Juniper, hair of golden flax.
Jennifer Juniper longs for what she lacks.
Do you like her ? Yes, I do, Sir.
Would you love her ? Yes, I would, Sir.
Whatcha doing Jennifer, my love ?
Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper.
Jennifer Juniper vit sur la colline,
Jennifer Juniper assise trs tranquille.
Dort-elle ? Je ne crois pas.
Respire-t-elle ? Oui, mais tout bas.
Qu'est-ce que tu fais, Jenny mon amour ?
Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper, Jennifer Juniper.

My name is Jennifer. My big sister bought me the 45 of this song when I was a little girl. Around 4 or 5yrs old. One night she dressed me up like a little hippie and she and her friend took me to a Donovan concert. I remember vendors selling glass blown daisies with wire stems and all colors of silly string cascading down from the upper levels. It was magical.
And he came out and sat on the stage and he opened the show with this song. This was before I was old enough to realize that many people had the same name. LoL So I thought he sang it for me. Hahaha!! Ahh the mind of a child... lol Still, that night, I felt very special! I still love this song. Both for its beautiful sound, lyrics and the wonderful memories it invokes. Thank you to my big sister, Suzanne for that! ❤️

So sweet, pure, happy… like my childhood. Wish I could revisit that time in the 60’s.

Everyone sang this to me as a kid and it used to drive me crazy. I used to think it was so cringe, but as an adult I look back with such fond memories and love this song.

I was five when this song came out. I absolutely loved it then; such a sweet, gentle song with lots of dreamy, peaceful imagery in the lyrics. Still love it today. It's a classic for the ages.

One of the most pleasant songs ever written. All Jennifers out there should feel honored.
