'Sheikh Hasina is in India': EAM Jaishankar briefs Parliament over the Bangladesh crisis

India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said that Sheikh Hasina sought "urgent approval" to stay in India for a short term, following an unprecedented political upheaval in Bangladesh.
"At very short notice, Sheikh Hasina requested approval to come, for a short term to India," the External Affairs Minister said.
Speaking at the Parliament, Jaishankar said that India is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh, and the Indian government expects the host government to provide security to the Indian High Commission stationed at Dhaka. "It is our expectation that the host government in Bangladesh will provide security to the Indian High Commission," Jaishankar said.
